December 10, 2005 – A baby dolphin caught in a crab trap is rescued, beginning a series of events that has become one of the most inspiring stories of our generation. Travel with us behind the scenes of Winter’s amazing true story. See footage of the actual rescue, and follow her through the trials of losing her tail, learning to swim without a tail, and the miracle of swimming again with her new prosthetic tail. Learn how the tail research is now helping human amputees. Hear from the real-life Clearwater Marine Aquarium team, and experience the joy of children and wounded soldiers who have found her to be a life-changing role model. This real life story is hosted by Cozi Zuehlsdorff, "Hazel" in Dolphin Tale.

  1. Dolphins Rule!

Posted by Unknown on 5th Jun 2017

Too bad humans don't always do as well as our marine friends! This item is one to recommend to children and young adults of the next generation - perhaps even required in the classroom! -- certainly beats a lot of what students are being given!

  2. A wonderful complement to A Dolphin's Tale

Posted by Janna Mauldin Heiner on 7th Jun 2016

After we watched the fictionalized film version _Dolphin Tale_ with our 7-year-olds, we purchased this so they could see how Winter's story really happened. While the pacing of the documentary was sometimes slow, it was fascinating to see the real people who were involved in her rescue, and the real people who have been inspired and helped by her story. The experiences of real-life children and soldiers who see themselves and their own potential in Winter and all she has overcome were very touching--as was the story of Levi, the autistic boy who identified with Sawyer in _Dolphin Tale_. I highly recommend this documentary to any parent whose children loved the Warner Brothers film. Comparing and contrasting is a good exercise, and Winter's real influence is worth knowing about. (Also, once they know what real-life Abby Stone looks like, it will be interesting for them to see her in the background of _Dolphin Tale_ scenes featuring her counterpart Phoebe!)

  8. Simply Amazing

Posted by Sharon C. on 23rd May 2015

I have been a wildlife rehabilitator for over 20 years, concentrating on North American mammals, but I have always had a passion about marine mammals. After purchasing and watching this DVD, that passion has grown exponentially. This true story of the rescue, rehab, and training of Winter is beautifully done and can be viewed by people of all ages. If you have ever heard the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child," you will really appreciate the combined efforts of a number of organizations and people that resulted in a successful rescue with a happy ending. No, Winter will never be able to return to the wild, which is always the primary goal of a rehabber, but that fact did not make her new family work any less to save her. In fact, she has repaid their compassion 1,000-fold with her interaction with special needs children, adults, and veterans. Her spirit and refusal to feel sorry for herself continue to inspire people around the world, and that has been captured beautifully in Winter - the Dolphin That Can.

  14. would be fantastic except the music

Posted by Unknown on 21st Feb 2015

The story is extremely touching, the content is SOOO GOOD. My probably is that the background music is LOUD, and distracting. There were parts that the music is so loud you could barely hear the people speaking. I hope they redo this video with better audio control.

  15. Touching

Posted by Chantal de Korte on 14th Feb 2015

The documentary is touching and very beautiful. My partner and I were both in tears watching it. He has lost his right lower leg a few months after watching the documentary, that's why it was extra emotional for us.

Please watch the documentary and the movie. You'll be touched and it's totally worth it.

(that I can come on day)

  19. Winter DVD heartwarming!

Posted by Unknown on 8th Nov 2014

I enjoyed the Winter DVD very much. I liked hearing both the true story of Winter as well as Hope. It was a very emotional DVD and I cried like a baby for the full 90 minutes. I enjoyed the personal stories, but so many more people have been inspired by Winter I wondered why these were chosen. I think I would have liked it better if stories of Winter's other friends at the aquarium had been included instead of the personal stories, but that's just my opinion. I'm big on animals and curious about the ones at CMA. They are like a big family. I am neither a child nor handicapped but I still find great inspiration from the animals and workers at CMA.

  20. I loved it
